WRITERS' NIGHT 2000

Writers from UST, Ateneo, La Salle joined UP writers at the traditional Writer's Night, sponsored by the UP Creative Writing Center last December 12, Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Balay Kalinaw in UP Diliman. Held annually to raise additional funds for the CWC's many projects, Writer's Night is also a reunion of the Fellows of all the Up National Writers' Workshops and a Christmas Party for the literary community at large.

Last year, the affair was held at the Bistro 70s in Quezon City, and the year before that, at the Filipinas HeritageLibrary in Makati. In 2000, it returned to its original venue.

While previous Writers' Night have featured auctions of literary memorabilia and the services of some of the established writers, the year's celebration was a night of music. A program featured performances by well-known singer-song writers and prominent writers who are talented singers as well. Visitors also partcipated in the singing and enjoyed the videoke, which was available all night for a small fee.

There were also booths, sponsored by student literary organizations from Ateneo, UST, La Salle, and the UP, which sold items like hand crafted objects, and services like tarot card readings, as well as booths for games, like pachinko and darts. The CWC also held a flea market book sale mainly for the benefit of students
